The Define component identifies student standards which are broke into two categories; mindsets and behaviors. It also establishes professional standards, competencies and the ethical practices for school counselors.
Vision Statement:
The vision of Mannsville School Counseling Department is that all students recognize their values, strengths, and interests to be productive citizens and lifelong learners. They execute the skills that they have mastered academically, socially, and emotionally to actively purse college and career opportunities.
Mission Statement:
The mission of Mannsville School Counseling Department is to empower all students to reach their full potential, develop resilience in response to adversity, think critically and build the skills to effectively respond to modern day life. The school counselor will advocate for equity, access, and success for all students by identifying and addressing hurdles, allowing student to become responsible citizens.

Academic
Academic Development focuses on developing plans and programs to foster the ability for all students to learn to the best of their potential.
Legal Obligation of Confidentiality

Career
Career Development focuses on developing the students awareness of the connections between school and the workplace. It strives to facilitate planning for the transition to career or college readiness.
The school counselor is acquired by the ASCA Ethical Guidelines to keep all information confidential.

Social/Emotional
Social/Emotional Development focuses on learning and implementing effective strategies to manage emotions as well as apply positive interpersonal skills.
Limits to Confidentiality
1. If a student threatens to harm themselves.
2. If a student threatens to harm someone else.
3. If the student is being harmed by another.
4. If the school counselor is subpoenaed by court.
